How do you handle stress?

The past couple of years has brought on more stress to every individual on the planet than we have seen in decades! While a certain amount of stress is normal, too much of it can overwhelm you, your mind and your body. So how do you handle Stress? If you feel stuck in a fight-or-flight state then likely there is something you need to do in order to return to homeostasis – a stable balance point between you, your mind and your body. Whether it’s the state of the world, heartbreak, or your own healing journey, there are things you can do in order to help yourself through it. The goal is for you to get back to living your life to it’s fullest potential. Here are some helpful tips: Listen to what you are thinking. Remember, thoughts backed up by emotions are powerful things. If you find yourself in a negative internal dialogue, you do have the choice and power to flip the script! You can take a step back and recalibrate yourself with a few deep breathes and rephrase that dialogue to something that can be motivating, inspiring or promising. Follow that by actions and you got yourself a beautiful receipt towards solidifying those beneficial thought patterns. Think of it like you are giving advice to your most dearest friend whom you really want to do and be well in life. That’s the type of caring conversation you would benefit from internally. Make self-care a priority. The body is an organic instrument that you control. Just like a cell phone, it needs to recharge. From this perspective...

Changing a life simply with an adjustment

Here is one of my patients in my Queens location who is an amazing athlete and a frequent centrum biker (meaning he would bike 100 miles in a day). Needless to say, he took his physical state and athleticism very seriously and incorporated a healthy diet filled with organic foods and any supplements needed to support his overall well being. He had gotten into a very bad bicycle accident and sold his favorite bike. After the second accident a short time later, he came to me to help him with his left shoulder. He had significant limitations in the range of motion. Also his strength on  that left side was seriously reduced to a minimum. I would adjust him twice a week and he would report nice gradual changes in mobility and strength. week by week he reported being able to do more with his arm. Left shoulder was getting stronger and he was able to do incline push ups – something he would not consider a few weeks prior. One day he comes in and slightly down, he states, “You know, I think I am going to sell my bike”. He was on the verge of quitting something he absolutely loved to do due and give into the fear of getting into another bike accident! I told him “You can always sell your bike, but do me one favor. Bring the bike here one time and let me adjust you on it.” He agreed … What you don’t see in this video is his ride to my office. He said he was quite nervous and filled with anxiety during...

Improving Functional Performance through Chiropractic Care

When talking about functional performance, it can have multiple outlooks. 1. Physical performance 2. Mental/ emotional performance 3. Internal body performance As the common perception of chiropractic revolves around getting out of pain, the first two aspects of functional performance can be overlooked by the grand majority of people.  That’s the area I want to focus on in this  blog. Sometimes it’s not so much about pushing harder to break through boundaries and limitations, sometimes it might be a factors that you may not even think that can come into play that will determine the overall victories of your pursuit. It is so challenging because we are talking about factors that you may have not even known that you didn’t know. So consideration was never in the realm of possibilities. Driven individuals do not want to limit their mindset of what can be achieved. As much as this is a fantastic trait to break through barriers and enter into uncharted territories, at times it could lead to problems. Problems like overexerting, overextending or taking on more than you can chew will lead to a downward spiral in health and wellness which can easily wind up in mistakes being made .. whether it is in the job, at the gym, with the family, with friends or so on. Working with very diverse people – from executives to entrepreneurs, from competitive athletes to the guy trying to get back in shape, from mothers to business owners – I see how transformative the chiropractic adjustment can be in their pursuit. I had a business owner who came in for a regular chiropractic check...

No Pain Means I’m Fine … Or Does It?

How many times have you heard about that “healthy man” who went for a check up because he was having some unusual pain? Doctors’ examination lead to the clean bill of health (everything fine), only for him to peel over dead within a short time thereafter. So why am I using this example? Well, let me ask you this … is pain a good indicator to determine if you are healthy or not? Lets explore this a little bit. Let’s look at the anatomy of the nerve. Nerves are composed of two branches that have very specific purposes. Now depending on how your body is distorted, twisted, deviated or contorted will determine how the nerves are affected. Also depending on the intensity of the distortions, the problem could be dealing with one, two or all three branches of the nerve. The Two branches include: Motor Branch Sensory Branch A combination of these branches are used by the Autonomic Nervous System which I will briefly describe below. The Motor Branch (Nerves) carry signals from the brain (and spinal cord) into the muscles, glands and skin of your body The Sensory Branch (Nerves) carries signals from the body’s internal and external environment into the Central Nervous System (CNS) to interpret and process for necessary responses to keep the body as healthy and vibrant as possible based on the conditions it’s presented. The Autonomic Nervous System  Control and Regulate all the internal organs without you having to think about it.  It consists of both sensory and motor nerves sending and receiving information to and from the body and the environment.  It further compartmentalizes...

What are your Shoes Doing To Your Body?

People all over the world struggle with back pains, hip pain, knee pain and so on. They go through all lengths to find solutions. Going from one therapist to the next provides some benefits but the symptoms keep coming back. Well sometimes there is a constant irritant that might be the culprit and often times overlooked. It might be right under your feet! Believe it or not, a lot of times the shoes you wear may be a strong contributing factor to aches and pains that build up during a long duration in your body. Your entire body can be compromised by the type of shoe you wear! As a matter of fact, your entire posture and breathing capacity can be altered by the shoes you wear. Therefore knowing how to test your shoe so you know what it’s doing to your body becomes an important tool in determining how fast your body will reach optimum levels of health. Imagine by simply making small adjustments to the inside of your shoe, you would feel a sense of: breathing easier and fuller. Being more upright having a better posture, moving easier and swifter having more endurance Is Orthotics The Solution? Actually not, but why? Orthotics, as far as I have seen, causes the feet to be fixed in a very specific way while walking and prevents the dynamic nature of the foot to move about and use all the muscles and joints to their fullest capability. And if worn for a period longer than the body needs, they can actually be detrimental. That’s because the body is very dynamic and always...
